WordPress.org vs WordPress.com

Seconds after my last post I read this article and learned the very distinct and important difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. For training, I need to focus on WordPress.org, but I won’t abandon this site.

WordPress Basics

As I start this training, I have absolutely no WordPress experience other than visiting some blogs powered by WordPress. Pretty much all I know is what I read on Wikipedia, “WordPress is a free and open source blogging tool and a content management system.” As I understand it, this means users can create posts and webpages using a GUI and without actually coding them.

So to begin learning about WordPress, I started with WordPress’s own checklist. It covers the basics of creating and using a WordPress blog including the following topics.

  1. Creating a WordPress Site
  2. Themes
  3. Customization
  4. Posts, Pages, and Menus

After reading the checklist and poking around in the admin tool, I have changed my theme and created this post.
